S.M.D.R.S.D College, Pathankot-the premier most institution of higher learning in District
Pathankot was established in 1953 by Late Chaudhary Kesho Dass Ji, Ex. M.L.A., Pathankot. The
institution was established with the sole aim of service to the society. Choudhary Kesho Dass Ji
cherished a vision of providing higher education to the people of this backward area.
The founder President of the college, Choudhary Kesho Dass was highly intelligent,
industrious and an enlightened person with a farsighted vision and dream. He gave his vision and
dream of higher learning a shape in the form of S.M.D.R.S.D. College, Pathankot – a premier multi
faculty post graduate college affiliated to G.N.D.U. Amritsar.
The College, spreads over many acres of land in serene, picturesque, lush green campus in
sprawling pollution free environment, is located on G.T. Road, National Higway 2k.m. from Main
Bus Stand and Railway Station. Pathankot-a converging point of Punjab, Himachal and Jammu
Kashmir – is well connected with all parts of the country by road, Rail and Air. The excellent
building infrastructure of the College comprises of various departments and administrative wings.
The Computer Department equipped with more than hundred Computer systems is divided into four
air conditioned laboratories. The whole campus, including the academic blocks, Canteen, grounds,
stadium and lawns, provides the students with a feeling of excellent academic atmosphere and a
sense of splendour that contributes a lot in the overall development of the students here.
The enlightened management of the College gives high priority to faculty development and
is doing yeoman’s service for the growth and development of the institution. The present
management headed by Chowdhary Dr. Rajeshwar Singh as the Life President of the society has
reiterated the commitment for the growth of the college by transparent and supportive management.
It is because of the positive attitude of the management towards its faculty, that the teaching faculty
is highly stable, dedicated and committed.
The college in short span of time has pioneered many achievements to carve for itself an
excellent reputation today. The college is proud of its innovative and well qualified faculty headed
by dynamic Principal Prof. Jasveer Chand Katoch – an academician possessing highly professional
administrative skill and vast experience in the field of higher education. He is leading the college to
new heights of success inspite of facing all challenges and problems in the highly professional way
as a seasoned educationist. As a result the College is marching ahead under the able guidance of
such far sighted management and perspicacious principal.
Students of this college have always shown an outstanding performance in academics.
Remarkable performance has been shown by the students in Co-curricular and Extra curricular
activities. The students of this college have been representing the university in many events at
national and international level. On the whole, this college has become a role model for other
institutions and is looked upon as a trend setter for others in the matters of higher education.
